Welcome to the Middle Aged Ships comment ficathon! 

Rules:

• Open to all fandoms containing middle aged characters and pairings.  We consider middle aged to be 40+, but this isn't a hard and fast rule, so use your judgement.
• Pairings do not have to be canonical, and crossovers are welcome
• Adult content is allowed, and welcome.  Anon commenting is on if that is your preference
• One prompt per comment, please, but prompt as many times as you wish

Prompt Format:

Fandom(s), character/pairings, prompt - should be contained in the subject line, the body can contain more information, example:
[Subject line:] Stranger Things, Joyce/Hopper, Romantic Dinner
[Body:] Hopper takes Joyce out to a romantic dinner, but Joyce doesn't seem to realize that it is a date

Fill Format:

Fills should reply to the original prompt comment.

Fill: Fandom, character/pairings, prompt, rating (if applicable) - should be contained in the subject line, the body will contain the fic.  If the fic is super long feel free to link to your blog or A03, FFN, etc.

Thank you for organizing this! I'm looking forward to participating.

A couple quick rules questions:
Do both partners need to be middle-aged? I have a couple older woman/younger man ships I'd like to request.
Is there an upper age limit? There's a prompt or two I'd like to leave involving women around 65.

I am glad you are looking forward to this, I am too! As for the ship ages there is no upper limit so characters 65+ are definitely included. As for the lower age limit, I put 40+ in the rules, but this is not a strict rule, if one half of your ship is in their thirties go ahead and post them. The whole point of this ficathon is to encourage the creation of fanworks for mature adult pairings. I find in a lot of fandoms the teenagers and characters in their early twenties get most of the love, and in turn most of the fanworks are written about them, I am hoping to change that.

I just want to mention you might want to turn off custom comment pages for this comm. All you need to do is go to the Display tab in Account Settings for the comm and uncheck the "Show this community's icons pages in its chosen style instead of the site layout" box.

Thanks for the heads up, but I checked the settings and this box isn't checked, could it be something else that is causing the issue?

Does the prompt/fic have to be romance-focused? I love reading and writing my ships doing stuff rather than just being fluff/pwp!

romance-focused? No.

No, it can be anything you want. It can be a Gen post, it can be action oriented, it doesn't even have to involve a pairing, if really you don't want. The only stipulation is that the main focus be on middle aged characters. (I just used a romance example because I am a sucker for it.)

would you take an unrequested fill? I've been working on something that's rather spiraled out of control and has a middle aged ship in a fandom that's just me

Sure, I don't see why not. You could just comment on the ficathon post, or if you wanted to keep the continuity you could post the prompt and respond with the fill. There are no rules saying you can't fill your own prompts.

Yeah, I figured. I'm doing a personal challenge where I post to comms that I want to see get more active. I know the odds of it spurring a bunch of activity are pretty low, but I figure it's worth a shot. :)
